Preliminary version

I have suddenly become interested in the topic of Web-site navigation. A site might have great content or great graphics, but without effective navigation it is tiresome, confusing, and frustrating to use. There are many pages out there offering advice on the "right" way to design pages and sites, with most of them not taking their own advice. (So let me state this up-front: this page does not take the advice it offers. It will, one day...)

Here are my thoughts on what works and what doesn't. This is not a research paper, but a personal look at the advice being offered and some sites that "work." One of the things I like about this issue is that it is not, fundamentally, technology-driven, but driven by human factors.
